The Worries Of Aging :: essays research papers
T. S. Eliot's poem 'The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock'; is quite a lengthy poem for the novice poetry reader, which consists of some 130 lines. Yet, it is the poem's mass that enables the rookie to discern the theme at length. In the beginning and later towards the ending of the poem, the narrator seems to be daydreaming, using a lot of imagery to portray fun or pretty places of solitude, which makes the stanzas ambiguous. In the center of the poem the narrator describes his human feelings towards the surrounding people and objects; here is where a logical connection can be grasped. The narrator is preoccupied with the passing of time and often thinks of tranquil, imaginary places to elude his plaguing thoughts of social ostracism. The theme of this poem, suggesting from the era of time and the narrator's tone, is that age is a burden and man is deeply troubled by it. The author is stating the trouble the narrator is having dealing with middle age and the inhibition to communicate. There are several meanings in the poem that suggest this. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Eliot uses the words, 'And how should I begin?'; and 'How should I presume?'; repetitiously. This shows the narrator is unconfident with himself mentally and physically. Lines 41 and 44, '(They will say: 'How his hair is growing thin!';)';, and '(They will say: 'But how his arms and legs are thin!';)'; indicates he is terrified of what will happen if people see his balding head or his slim and aging body. He feels that people will think he is old and useless and that they will talk about him behind his back. Another suggestion of aging and how it anguishes the emotions is the stereotype old men have of faltering when trying to communicate ideas with people. The repetition of words the narrator uses like 'vision and revision';, illustrates his feelings of inadequacy in communicating with the people around him. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Moreover, his insecurity and low self-esteem obscures his love life greatly. It hinders him from doing the things he wishes to do. The woman he is in love with is younger than he is and this is emotionally painful for him. He does not believe that some younger women could possibly accept him or find him attractive. To express any kind of affection or attraction toward her is awkward and difficult for him. Lines 79-80, 'Should I, after tea and cakes and ices, have the strength to force the moment to its crisis?

Essay --
1 INTRODUCTION: Haptics is a recent enhancement to virtual environments allowing users to ââ¬Å"touchâ⬠and feel the simulated objects with which they interact. Haptics is the science of touch. The word derives from the Greek haptikos meaning ââ¬Å"being able to come into contact withâ⬠. The study of haptics emerged from advances in virtual reality. Virtual reality is a form of human-computer interaction (as opposed to keyboard, mouse and monitor) providing a virtual environment that one can explore through direct interaction with our senses. To be able to interact with an environment, there must be feedback. For example, the user should be able to touch a virtual object and feel a response from it. This type of feedback is called haptic feedback .In human-computer interaction; haptic feedback means both tactile and force feedback. Tactile, or touch feedback is the term applied to sensations felt by the skin. Tactile feedback allows users to feel things such as the texture of surfaces, temperature and vibration. Force feedback reproduces directional forces that can result from solid boundaries, the weight of grasped virtual objects, and mechanical compliance of object and inertia. Tactile feedback, as a component of virtual reality simulations, was pioneered at MIT. The term haptics in its broadest sense relates to the study of touch and the faculty by which external objects or forces are perceived through contact with the body. The word itself derives from the Greek haptikos, ââ¬Å"able to touchâ⬠. Haptics can be found in wide range of devices. In the extreme with respect to precision, surgical simulators use haptics to provide realistic forces that emulate the feel of a real medical procedure. In the extreme with respect to the magnitude of t... ...lications Design and implement a few haptic related projects for the benefit of physically challenged people. This proposal develops an approach for haptic exploration of unknown objects by robotic fingers. Because haptic exploration is coupled with manipulation and exploration using a sequence of phases is presented. With specialized fingers and sensors and appropriate planning and control robots can also be enabled to explore the worlds through touch. Haptic exploration has applications in many areas including planetary exploration, undersea salvage, operations in remote and hazardous conditions. Application of the human haptic interaction, multi sensory perception, action and multimodal feedback can be applied in the fields of education, rehabilitation, medicine, computer aided design, skill training, computer games, driver controls, simulation and visualization.

Macbeth and Macduff Essay
You have some excellent points, but I think youââ¬â¢re missing an essential part of the question here ââ¬â compare and contrast. So far youââ¬â¢ve spoken about Macbeth in great detail and neglected the other two. The key here is balance. Say Macbeth is like soâ⬠¦. where as Banquo is like soâ⬠¦ and Macduff like soâ⬠¦ (this is contrasting) When comparing you are going to have to look at how each reacts in certain situations compared to Macbeth. For instance, Banquo reacts to the prophesies of the ââ¬Å"weird sistersâ⬠with suspicion, mistrust and a certain level of foreboding whereas Macbeth reacts with elated disbelief, hangs on every word and sees it as the beginning of great things. And from his reaction the things said by the sisters were ambitions that were within him already whereas Banquo had no real ambitions to become father to a line of kings before that. Thatââ¬â¢s why he says ââ¬Å"Speak to me who neither begs nor fears your favors nor your hateâ⬠ââ¬â or something like that. And use quotes. A good essay always has good quotes woven into it. But donââ¬â¢t go wild with them. Just place one or two here and there to support a point. Also, personally I have never viewed Macduff and Banquo as heroes. They lack the heroic potency of a Shakespearean hero. Shakespearean heroes are dense characters and these two are pretty straightforward. With Shakespeare thereââ¬â¢s always more to a hero than meets the eye. So I would say, it is clear beyond doubt that Macbeth is the hero of the play. But the key is ââ¬â heââ¬â¢s a tragic hero, one who ends up a fallen hero. And arenââ¬â¢t such heroes always the best? Banquo and Macduff would have been boring heroes, clean, cut and straight as they are. They would have been so predictable. Whereas with Macbeth you could never know what he was going to do. In the beginning we are introduced to this good, noble guy whoââ¬â¢s fatal flaw is ambition and we hope he wonââ¬â¢t go through with Duncanââ¬â¢s murder but he does; we pity him, hope for his redemption even and are shocked by the things that he begins to do after the murder as he grows bolder and bolder.

If you do n't know how to do that, best do your own research. 7- With hidden files shown in Finder: A- Goto HD / Library / Application Support / In Finder, order the files column by Date Modified, you should find a hidden file looking something like this . hkzftzgrc It may have a different variation of lettering but if it was Modified the same time you ran Sketchup then that's the file you want to Lock. (Select the file, Press Command-I, and tick the Lock box) B- Goto HD / (your username) / Here again you should find another hidden file looking like . hkzftmgrc . Making sure it was created the same time you opened Sketchup, lock this one too. ââ¬â Extra precautions ââ¬â it's been suggested to lock ââ¬â HD / (your username) / Preferences / com. google. sketchuppro8. plist ââ¬â but this will also lock ALL your preset options within Sketchup. I'm not sure this is necessary. Also a file to Lock may be created here ââ¬â HD / (your username) / Caches / com. google. sketchuppro8 /Cache. db ââ¬â but it was not generated on my installation And It wouldn't hurt either to un-tick ââ¬ËCheck For Updates' in LayO ut and Style_Builder That's it, hope it works for you, Enjoy!
Leadership in Health and Social Care Essay
Use and Develop systems that promote communication. Evidence: â⬠¢ TC Refresher Training 25/06/13 â⬠¢ Picture Hygiene Chart â⬠¢ Aspergers Training Certificates â⬠¢ Minuets from TC updates â⬠¢ Various support plans (Stated Below) â⬠¢ Pictures of TC boards â⬠¢ Feelings chart for RL In the services that I manage there is a range of individuals with different communication barriers. In Rivendell one of the services, I have a gentleman SG with very poor hearing and no verbal communication. Myself and the team at the service use Signs, pictures, Symbols and Widgets to communicate with him. We also have a lady LW at the service who has very little verbal communication and what she does say is often in her own way of communicating which at first not everyone understands. She can hear but cannot always understand or take in everything that people say to her. She responds to the welsh language much better. We again use signs, pictures and widgets to communicate to LW. There is another gentleman there DB who can communicate and hear but can get easily distracted so Pictures also work well with DB. In Gwel Afon another service, I have 3 gentlemen who can read and communicate however they like to have pictures and symbols to help them with things. For example they have an accessible chore chart and I did make one gentleman a picture hygiene chart to prompt him to shower / shave etc on certain days as he would tend to forget. I also manage a service called Glanadl where two gentlemen live, they are both very independent and can speek for themselves. However one of these gentlemen cannot read so we do support him with this. I have two gentlemen in my services who have Aspergers, even though they can communicate they can sometimes struggle to understand what you are saying to them or take it the wrong way. As manager of these service I ensure that all of my employees have the correct training to support these individuals. All employees from Rivendell that use widget and TC have been on the Total Communications Training, they also receive a TC refresher every few months. I have assigned SW a support worker at the service to be a TC co-ordinator and he does a TC induction with all new starters before they go on their training. For employees that work with the two gentlemen with Aspergers I requested Aspergers training which was tailored around the two individuals and their communication in particular. I will have meetings with the Speech and Language department at C.T.L.D every few months to discuss the current Communication systems in place at Rivendell and review them. We are currently looking into getting IPADââ¬â¢s at the service to improve communication as it was proven very beneficial in the trial the individuals had. When I took over as manager in the Rivendell service I felt that the communication systems could be improved. I worked with the team to improve the communication systems by getting more wigets around the service, we set up a TC board in individual bedrooms. We also set up a TC board in the hall way with activities on. When we received the timetable from the SAC for each individual it was all written out so none of the individuals would understand it. I asked my Team Developer at the service to re-do these timetables with the relevant symbols and pictures and these are working really well. The individual files of each persons support I manage are tailored to them, If they have communication barriers and respond well to pictures then we use pictures aswel as writing in their files so they can be involved in there support plans. See DB & SG support plans. Each individual has there own support plans and if they require support around communication there will be detailed support plans stating what support they need. See ML & LW Communication Support Plans.

Tok Knowing a Friend and Swimmin
TOK 11 summative assessment quarter 2 Jacqueline Blok 21/11/11 Compare and contrast knowing a friend to knowing how to swim, knowing a scientific theory and knowing a historical period. What conclusions about nature of knowing can you reach? Thinking I knew how to swim I jumped into a pool and nearly drowned. The one friend who was always there for me, who I thought I knew, left me without a goodbye. Thinking that a light year was a measurement of time, until I had a physics class.I though Pearl Harbor was just a movie, until we were learning about World War 2 in humanities. With asking these questions, to be certain in the world we live in today might be a challenge. Knowing a friend would require a bond, which is created through experiences with each other, a perception of the feelings of that friend and thoughts that run in a deeper level. One might think he/she knows someone very well, because of a long-term close relationship or similar interests or tastes. However no one other t han himself or herself would understand their own way of thinking, the workings of their own mind, it is impossible to know why certain actions are performed by someone else. Only glimpses and insights may be picked up of the complexities of the mysterious mind and personality of oneself. My best friend dislikes exposing her legs, because she doesnââ¬â¢t feel confident enough to show them. This seems like a reasonable excuse, if she is uncomfortable with her body, it would be her choice to expose it or not, however deeper psychological factors are involved and countless other reasons which I would not be able to think of nor comprehend. The knowledge of another person would be mainly created out of language, perception and emotion. A knowerââ¬â¢s perception of a friendââ¬â¢s action would be affected by emotions; hence the knowledge of a friend will be affected too.A perception of a friend may be altered when the emotions of a friend affects their actions in certain situation s. Language has complexities too, language can make an attempt at describing feelings, however this doesnââ¬â¢t provide a complete understanding of one and another. The best way to communicate feelings would be to let one experience anotherââ¬â¢s events and create their own feelings; an example would be the expression ââ¬Å"you canââ¬â¢t possibly imagine what I have been throughâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Imagine yourself in some one elseââ¬â¢s shoesâ⬠.Considering the history of one, would affect their ways of acting upon situations, all humans think and act differently according to personalities, which have been shaped by all sorts of experiences in their own past. Swimming is an action which requires a structured breathing pattern and a well timed combination of limb motions, allowing you to travel through water, the important key words here that I found through my observations are that knowing ââ¬Å"howâ⬠is not the same as knowing ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠nor is it close to knowing ââ¬Å"thatâ⬠.Knowing how to swim is quite similar to knowing a friend. Because one cannot possibly learn how to swim by reading instructions, someone could read all the documents and articles available on how to swim, and jump into a pool and drown. For example at one particular time I developed liking in ââ¬Ëparkourââ¬â¢ I watched all the youtube videos that I could find on ââ¬Ëhow to parkour, read many articles and tips and tricks. So one day I felt I gained enough knowledge about this acrobatic sport and decided to try it out. And what I learnt was that I could not even jump over a simple bench.I am able to read and apply concepts that I have gained through reading, however in this case I was not able to apply the information fast enough of ââ¬Å"howâ⬠to parkour. Even though I had a sophisticated amount of knowledge on how to parkour, I was unable to convert this knowledge and understanding into reality. According to my research these two actions swi mming and parkouring require ââ¬Ëbodily-kinesthetic intelligenceââ¬â¢ which is the ability to control to control the movements of a body and skillfully interact with a variety of objects.Scientific theories have been made through observations of the world, creativity and of course imagination. They can be known through reason, language and perception. A scientist can propose a theory purely upon perception and reasoning and justify this theory with evidence that shows how this particular phenomenon follows the predicted theory. For example in chemistry we did a set of experiments on how different metals when heated in a flame would give out a color. A hypothesis was provided and from that I knew that the flames indeed would change color.I know for a fact that when Copper Chloride is heated it will give out a green color, I saw this through my own eyes and as the experiment was repeated several times with the same results. Seeing out of my own eyes is proof. Through being taugh t by my teacher means I am relying on a higher authorityââ¬â¢s knowledge. Also the lack of a language can prove a theory, for example every one dies, this is a fact because by using deductive reasoning there is no one here to tell us otherwise. The problem with knowing a historical period is that it is in the past and we are in the present, the knowledge of a historical period is transferred from the past into the present through language and documentation. If we have not been informed about these periods, the present day people would never had known it existed. The knowing of a historical period is based upon accepting certain events through evidence from the past. It is unfortunate that historians cannot directly ââ¬Å"testâ⬠the past whereas a scientific theory and swimming can be tested. This suggests that testing is thus an important factor in determining the nature of knowledge. The claim of knowing a historical period can be justified by looking at pictures or a docume ntary, technology over the years has improved significantly the knowledge we know today about the past. Unlike a scientific theory here we can rely on perception, observation and interpretations. To know a historical period we must have either been there or rely on a higher authority to inform us. I however ponder on the possibility of the authority being fooled by perception. This is where logic and reasoning comes in to decide whether or not something has happened. If something hadnââ¬â¢t happened, then why can we see evidence of the consequences, for example when I visited Cambodia the Angkor Wat temples I saw evidence of historical artifacts of the monks, and until the present monks still live among there. With this I can deduce that these temples must have come from somewhere, and it is definitely a sacred place. With this we are knowing ââ¬Å"thatâ⬠something happened instead of knowing ââ¬Å"ofâ⬠a friend.By identifying and considering the four concepts that wer e provided we can conclude that the main difference in the nature of the four knowledge claims are the way you know them; knowing ââ¬Å"how toâ⬠and knowing ââ¬Å"that something isâ⬠are completely different. A knower will never be able to know a friend than himself or herself, exact feelings and emotions cannot be communicated directly and as detailed through perception and language. Swimming can only be learnt through perception, this ability is not able to be transferred linguistically, but must be learnt first hand through training.A historical period in time can be known by a person who has lived through that time and has transferred the knowledge gained through linguistical means, however the knowledge could be misleading due to perception or the facts of the period are incomplete providing only one side of the story. A scientific theory may be discovered and proven through various tests and observations via perceptions and reason. However communication of this par ticular theory via language does not have the same effect as the perception of it.Emotions can affect perception language cannot transfer precise meanings and assumptions to generalize from specific points can be found through inception. Due to these ways of knowing being limited, complete knowledge is unable to be attained. Different claims requiring different ways of knowing to justify them, they have all have one thing in common; their nature: they are based on premises that we accept in every day life as being ââ¬Ëtrueââ¬â¢ and therefore deduct that based on these premises, they are equally true. We know something as far as we are willing to accept it into our world.

Abortion: Bad decision
Bad decision Oh! Itââ¬â¢s really very bad! Well, itââ¬â¢s the big mistake that I had in my life!! I know that everyone can make mistakes in his life, or had bad decisions, did you?! For me, yes. I had one mistake in my life itââ¬â¢s still the worst decision that I had made it in my life when I decided to come here to U. S. Before coming to U. S I had to take some actions. First of all, I took several actions in my studies. I have been doing my master in criminal Moroccan law at the university in Casablanca, morocco. Through I got my visa immigration to U.S. so, I stopped to complete my studies, and I took all my papers out of the university, because I thought that I will need then here in U. S. also, I visited my university for the last time, and I spent the whole day at it, where I bid farewell all my friends essay writer hub. Second, I took actions in my job, because I had a job when I was in my country. So, I resign from the job, and it was really hard time for me when I bid farewell my colleagues at work. After that, I tried to save money to save money to buy the flight ticket, and immigration feesâ⬠¦ tc. so, I spent a lot of money to coming here in U. S. after I bid farewell my parents and my brothers, I took the plan to U. S. The first few weeks, I feel that lifestyle is different, then I knew that my life was already changed since I arrived here in U. S. the first thing that I do it when I stay here, I tried to understand the people, and adapted with this new life. But, it was difficult, and I realized that it going to be hard for me, because it was really hard to find a job in U.S. I mean here a job as I had in my country because you should to start from zero, and the lifestyle itââ¬â¢s very difficult, too. Also, I tried to start my studies again, but it was impossible here because I study Moroccan law!! Also, I have to start from first step because my major it was Moroccan law and the U. S law is different. Also, I need to learn English , too. Actually, coming to U. S. A is stilling the worst decision that I have ever in made it in my life.
